Scientific Evidence

Neurofeedback Therapy is a well-researched field, and scientific studies have demonstrated its effectiveness in various applications. Research supports its efficacy in reducing symptoms associated with conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Studies have also shown positive effects on cognitive performance, attention, memory, and emotional regulation.

ADD/ADHD

In a review published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine in 2021, Neurofeedback Therapy was found to be beneficial for children with ADHD, showing improvements in impulse control, behavior, and focus.

Addictions

Researchers at UCLA conducted a study that revealed the positive effects of Neurofeedback Therapy on individuals with addictions. The study showed that neurofeedback therapy improved abstinence rates in these individuals

Anxiety

A 2021 study focusing on individuals with generalized anxiety disorder demonstrated the effectiveness of neurofeedback therapy in enhancing emotional regulation. The study reported significant reductions in anxiety and depressive symptoms among neurofeedback therapy participants.

Depression

Recent research published in Psychological Medicine indicated that neurofeedback therapy, when used as an adjunctive treatment, was effective in reducing depressive symptoms. The study relied on self-reports from participants to draw this conclusion.

Memory Issues

A 2021 study investigating the efficacy of Neurofeedback Therapy for memory loss associated with mild cognitive impairment showed significant improvements in memory function. These improvements were sustained for at least one month following the treatment.

PTSD

According to a research study published in NeuroImage: Clinical, individuals with PTSD who underwent 15-20 weeks of neurofeedback therapy experienced promising results. At the end of the treatment, 61% of participants no longer met the criteria for PTSD.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

In a review published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine in 2021, Neurofeedback Therapy was found to be beneficial for children with ADHD, showing improvements in impulse control, behavior, and focus.

Step 3

Neurofeedback

The session starts with a technician placing electrodes on your ears and scalp. You will then relax and watch the movie of your choice while we monitor your brain waves. When your brain waves are within the desired range and considered optimal, you are rewarded with uninterrupted movie viewing. However, the movie screen fades if your attention wavers and your brain waves deviate from the optimal range. This prompts your brain to form new neuropathways and adjust toward the desired range.

As soon as your brain successfully achieves this adjustment, you are rewarded with the movie continuing without interruptions or fading. During the course of 30 neurofeedback sessions, your brain "learns" to optimize its brain waves, specifically those associated with a state of calmness and focus.

SoaakClinics have had a huge, positive impact on my life - they have helped me heal both physically and mentally. Neurofeedback is an underutilized and under-appreciated tool that has addressed my depression, mental clarity/memory, focus, and anxiety. "We are extremely happy with the results we have seen with our ADHD Inattentive daughter. The staff is friendly and greets our daughter by name when she signs in. We started noticing a change about 5 sessions in, and by 15 sessions, there was no doubt this was working"

Frequently Asked Questions
How do we get started with Neurofeedback therapy?

Call or email one of our locations to schedule your no-cost consultation. Here we will answer any questions you may have and explain further how Neurofeedback therapy can help you or your loved one.

What is the first step once we decide to begin?

The first step is to schedule your Quantitative EEG. This is a 20-channel recording of total brain wave activity that helps us create what we call a “Brain Map.” Your Brain Map shows us what part of your brain is over or underactive and gives us prescriptions for how to treat with Neurofeedback. The Brain Map will take place here in our office unless otherwise arranged, and your customized Neurofeedback protocols will focus specifically on normalizing abnormal brain wave patterns found in your QEEG.

What happens after we have our Quantitative EEG (Brainmap) completed?

When we complete the QEEG in our office, we send the results to our Neuro-Map database and are able to receive immediate analysis results. We will schedule your first Neurofeedback appointment as soon as the analysis is received.

How long are Neurofeedback treatment sessions?

Each Neurofeedback session is approximately 30-40 minutes. We generally schedule an hour for each appointment.

How often are neurofeedback treatments?

Neurofeedback treatments are recommended at least two to three times per week. Two treatments can be completed in one day as long as we schedule three hours between sessions – this is especially helpful for our out-of-town clients. We offer treatments in 25 session blocks, as Neurofeedback Therapy requires reinforcement training. Positive changes occur over time.

Does insurance cover the cost of Neurofeedback Therapy?

Because Neurofeedback Therapy has been developed more recently, many insurance companies are only now beginning to recognize it. We do not offer direct billing, but some of our clients have been able to get partial reimbursements or deductible credits from their insurance companies. To find out if your insurance company will reimburse any of your expenses, contact your insurance company about Neurofeedback Services. Give them the billing code 90901 (EEG Biofeedback) to find out what is covered for your diagnosis. We are approved for Sooner Care for those 18 years old and under. Unfortunately, Medicare does not currently cover our services. We urge clients not to allow this to hinder getting started with Neurofeedback, as it truly pays for itself.

Please join us in helping to educate our lawmakers and insurance companies about Neurofeedback Therapy. There are so many who need our services.

Do you offer flexible payment options?

Yes, we do offer payment plans. Please speak with our office staff regarding the options available. We offer a discount when payment is made in full for 25 sessions. We also partner with Care Credit. Care Credit provides 0% interest for 18 months. Call 1(800) 365-8295 to qualify. The non-discounted rate applies when Care Credit is utilized.

Does Neurofeedback change personality?

No. Neurofeedback does not change personality. Personality is the expression of many genetic factors, along with the environment that shapes it. Many clients are concerned because the drugs prescribed to children and adults sometimes seem to “change their personality.” This falls under the category of a drug side effect which is not permanent but is bothersome. This is not the case with Neurofeedback. In fact, we believe that Neurofeedback helps children and adults become more of who they really are without the interference of troublesome symptoms of brain dis-regulation and drug-related side effects.

"Your brain is the organ of your personality, character, and intelligence and is heavily involved in making you who you are."

Daniel G. Amen,
America’s most popular psychiatrist
